Maven Web Application

In this chapter, we will learn how to use the version control system Maven to manage a web-based project, how to create, build, deploy, and run a web application.

to create a Web application

We can use maven-archetype-The webapp plugin to create a simple Java web application.

Open the command console, navigate to the C:\MVN folder, and then execute the following mvn command:

C:\MVN>mvn archetype:generate　-DgroupId=com.companyname.automobile　-DartifactId=trucks　-DarchetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp　　-DinteractiveMode=false

After execution, Maven will start processing and create the complete directory structure for a Java Web project.

执行完后，我们可以在　C:/MVN 文件夹下看到 trucks 项目，查看项目的目录结构：

Maven 目录结构是标准的，各个目录作用如下表所示:

文件夹结构	描述
trucks	包含 src 文件夹和 pom.xml 文件。
src/main/webapp	包含 index.jsp 文件和 WEB-INF 文件夹.
src/main/webapp/WEB-INF	包含 web.xml 文件
src/main/resources	包含图片、properties资源文件。

Next,　we　open　the　folder　C:\ > MVN > trucks > src > main > webapp > and　we　can　see　a　previously　created　index.jsp　file，　the　code　is　as　follows：

Build　Web　application

Open　the　command　console，go　to　the　C:\MVN\trucks　directory，and　then　execute　the　following　mvn　command：

Deploy Web Application

Open the folder C:\ < MVN < trucks < target < and find the trucks.war file, then copy it to your web server's web application directory and restart the web server.

Test Web Application

Run the web application by accessing the following URL:

http://:/trucks/index.jsp
