ISO (full name International Standards Organization) defines different letters/language defines the standard character set. In HTML 4.01 in, ISO-8859-1 is the default character.
Modern browsers support the following character sets:
ISO-8859-1 is the default character set for most browsers.
ISO-8859-1 the lower part (from 1 to 127 between the codes) is the original ASCII character set (0-9 the numbers, uppercase and lowercase English alphabet, and some special characters).
ISO-8859-1 the higher part (from 16to 255 between the codes) contains characters used in some Western European countries and some widely used special characters, all of which have entity names.
Most of these symbols can be used without entity references, but entity names or numbers provide a way to express symbols that are not easy to type on a keyboard.
HTML and XHTML reserves some characters. For example, you cannot use text containing these characters because browsers may mistake them for HTML tags.
